The Art Drawer is Back

The Art Drawer will be returning soon. We are treating its injuries in our HQ, but it will be as good as new in a few days. We cannot explain the circumstances or events that occurred having to do with the Nerds or the Art Drawer's disappearance. We did operate under secrecy, as we should have the entire time. We regret posting the beginning of the Art Drawer's plight, for it gives much information to our HQ's location. But so many of you have undoubtedly viewed it, that there is no point in taking it down. We will be unable to tell you the goings on regarding the Art Drawer or the nerds until its full recovery, or until the facts are unclassified.

Contest: Who can gather the most facts or almost-facts from 'Searching for the Art Drawer' first? We will post the facts you all come up with once you email it to us at: itsbumpybackhere@gmail.com

Thank you for your understanding in this time of loss. ;)

P.S. The Art Drawer is completely safe.

SOPA and PIPA: Save us!

PIPA and SOPA are federal acts that can potentially wreck the internet. It is supposed to be stopping copyright infringement and online piracy by censoring the web of all things that are not owned by the writer, or artist, etc., like the Art Drawer (possibly). It will be voted upon by Congress on January 24, 2012. It is taking COMPLETELY down YouTube, Wikipedia, all fan-made websites, fan art websites, fan fiction websites, drawing tutorials of TV characters, EVERYTHING. Two of my own blogs could be taken down (Harry Potter-referencing ones).

Click here for more information! This is a blog I did with six of my friends. I wrote the first post! It gives you information about PIPA and SOPA and how we can make a difference in their rulings (not as in, take away Congress's power, but to change their decision).

I have a rather large costume and prop collection, so I have a wide variety of things to use in the video.. I just couldn't find a visor hat... Oh well!

I am looking forward to posting it! It should be baked with golden edges by tomorrow. Look for it soon!

Rain and Thunder (Artistic Video)

Rain and Thunder is Our Plunder
Time Duration: 1:01 minutes
Music: Rain and thunder is Our Plunder Soundtrack (Garageband Music by CB. Rights Protected.)

This is a video. An actual video that really complements my vision. It worked out just as I had hoped it would, which is unusual for my videos. This is the first one I am really happy with (though I quite enjoyed my editing technique on my One Man Show). I hope you enjoy.

I had this vision of a rainy day, and music, and all of the artistic perspectives, so I composed some music on Garageband. I mapped out these points in the music where it didn't fit right, and I marked it, calling it a "Crow." I divided each Crow Section and wrote in a shot sequence for each shot on a Legal Pad (Legal Pads are very good for video notebooks). I then either found the shots in iPhoto (our photo-holding application on our Mac), or went out and shot them right then and there. This video is the final outcome of my artistic vision, and I do hope you enjoyed. Please give me feedback, whether good, or bad. I am currently studying videography, and I would like to know what I could do better.

Sixth Grade Christmas

In my class, the 6 people in our grade have decorated the pod for Christmas (the pod it the in between room between classrooms. Sometimes called the office, too). We have Christmas lights around the whiteboard, tinsel streamers around the door, bells, stockings, Christmas trees, and ornaments. But the most fun of all is the Secret Santa! We are getting gifts for each other. I got a present already. Also, since one of the kids in my class might not be here on Friday (our Opening Day), he showed his to his recipient today, but the recipient can't have it till tomorrow. Mine is already wrapped. In the morning, I need you to email me, reminding me to bring the Secret Santa gift (itsbumpybackhere@gmail.com). The funny thing is, we haven't told our teacher, and we didn't have permission to decorate, but she saw it and didn't object... I wonder how she will react on Friday when we give and receive? O.O Laul!*

Random + Writing + Christmas,
CB

P.S. Sorry if you don't celebrate Christmas! That is perfectly fine! No reason it wouldn't be! If you don't celebrate Christmas, in the comments, tell us a little bit about what you do during the holidays, or what you celebrate instead. We would love to learn about your culture! :D

*Instead of thinking L-O-L, I actually think 'laul,' as in 'Paul.' I also think 'burb' instead of 'B-R-B.' Haha!

How to Make Asparagus Out of Felt - by http://whilewearingheels.blogspot.com

I had glanced at this to see a pattern and a few pointers, and I did the rest on my own. This is different than I had done it, but I believe this seamstress to have a bit more experience, especially since she has a blog all about making fake food (and those radishes at the top look really good!!)

Here si the link to the page with the asparagus: http://whilewearingheels.blogspot.com/2011/09/i-heart-fake-food-felt-asparagus.html

Here is the tutorial by WhileWearingHeels.blogspot.com:

I heart fake food: Felt Asparagus

This pattern can be completed without using a sewing machine.

Supplies needed:
Dark Green Felt
Dark Green Thread
Fiberfill
Needle
Scissors
Optional: Red Ribbon or Thread

Using this pattern, which can also be found here.

Cut out all the pieces of your asparagus.

Fold the body of the asparagus in half, length-wise, overlapping the sides about a 1/4 of an inch. Hand sew it closed, running the length of the asparagus.

Continue to sew the length of the asparagus closed.

Stop sewing when you get about a 1/2 inch from the top of the asparagus.

Remove your needle and thread from the top of your asparagus and sew the bottom of the asparagus closed.

Fill the body of the asparagus with fiberfill. Do not fill past the 1/2 inch unsewn opening on the top.

Cut the top of the asparagus, the 1/2 inch you left open, giving the top the appearance of having a layer of leaves.

Taking one section of the top leaves...

Roll it up.

Do a few stitches at the bottom of the rolled up leaves. This will help maintain the shape you just created by rolling the leaves.

Add the next layer of leaves. Begin to roll the other layer, arranging it so this layer of leaves is slightly lower than the first layer of leaves.

Again, add a few stitches so that both layers of leaves are now sewn together.

Insert the 2 layers of leaves, you just sewed together, into the top of the asparagus.

Sew the top of the asparagus closed. Start sewing, at the base of the leaves you cut from the body of the asparagus, making sure you are also going through the additional layers, attaching them as well.

Set the individual leaves on the body of your asparagus to determine placement.

You can either sew the leaves onto the body of the asparagus or you can glue them on. I attached mine by sewing.

And there you have it...

Asparagus is purchased in a bundle so you might want to make a few more. I like to bundle mine together with red ribbon.

Birthday!

Happy birthday to me!

Banana Plush *UPDATE*

Mine turned out kinds strange... I would like to add that on the last step of making the cream banana part, you need to sew closed the bottom. The author forgot to add that. Also, you don't need to have cotton in the bottom of the peal.

Anyway, ti turned our really cute! I didn't do the face, but it is still pretty cool. I was searching online, seeing where I could buy a plush banana, cause I'm just that awesome, and then I found these directions! I just love that website it is on. Really helpful for arts and crafts. Once again, the site is www.cutoutandkeep.net. Have fun crafting!!!

Newscast Taping

I was in a taping of a newscast yesterday. It wasn't like, CNN or something. It was an assignment to write a transcript for a Greek/Roman "newscast." We all did other projects, but one of my friends, who also writes scripts, wrote a transcript and we all participated (there are six 6th graders in my class. All the rest are fifthies. d(; ) I played Persephone, goddess of gardens and flowers. Sarmasi played Demeter, goddess of agriculture, who is also Persephone's mother. Bigab played Athena, goddess of wisdom and battle strategy.  Macreon played Larry Zuza (a play on the host of the CNN Student News show, Carl Azuz). Scarlett Telsarct played Dionysus, god of wine (the actress was a girl). And Rasim was our technician (all of their names were scrambled for security. Those aren't ACTUALLY their names).

Anyway, we all played our parts pretty well, and we recorded it in our school's newsroom. It was a lot if fun! If I can get access to it, I will post it here.

Keeping Mealworms

Do you have an amphibian or reptile that eats crickets or mealworms? Do you need to nurture them for science class? Or do you just want to keep them for fun? Do you have a small SMOOTH-SIDED Tupperware™ or bowl? You can keep mealworms easily, and for a long time. (Not the mealworm itself, but you can have a running cycle of them.)

You can obtain the mealies from Wal*Mart or any pet store. They come in small packages and come with their own meal (fine grained oats and other grains).

Life Cycle: 114-165 days to complete. First it is a larva, then a pupa (the mealworm stage), then it grows to adulthood (darkling beetle) where they mate and then die a few weeks after the eggs are laid. Also, they might go dormant for a couple days before the make their chrysalis to turn into beetles. (THE BEETLES FLY AND LAY UP TO 500 EGGS PER BETTLE. Try not to cause an infestation of your house.)

Genders: They are virtually genderless, though they do have indistinct genders. It is said that the males have smaller heads, and the females have larger ones (if the males' are smaller, then duh the females would seem larger. Doi).  You can find the gender by turning your mealworm on is back, or looking at its belly through a clear cup. Use a hand lens for this. The end closest to its 6 legs is its head. The side farthest is the tail. See the sections of the worms? Count seven down from the head. On a female, there will be a swelling and two outcroppings. This is most likely a female.

Keeping Materials:
  • Shallow smooth-sided cup, bowl, or box
  • Fine grains with no additives (e.g. Bleach in flour)
  • Sticks, leaves, etc. etc.
  • A lid with air holes or a rag with a small-medium hole (away from the sides of the container)
  • Small fruit slices with HIGH water levels
  • NO NO NO NO water EVER
  • Mealworms!
Keeping Directions:

Lay the grain throughout the container. Add any leaves or twigs you want. Put in the small fruit slices around the box. Add the mealworm!

Now, just try to keep them healthy and safe. NEVER EVER EVER add water. No added moisture is needed, or they will die. They are hydrated form the water and other liquids in the fruit that they need to eat.

Mine's name is Leopold (Leo for short). I am trying not to get too attached because he is going to die soon. I am going to release him when he cocoons.

Happy mealing!
