Sixth Grade Christmas

In my class, the 6 people in our grade have decorated the pod for Christmas (the pod it the in between room between classrooms. Sometimes called the office, too). We have Christmas lights around the whiteboard, tinsel streamers around the door, bells, stockings, Christmas trees, and ornaments. But the most fun of all is the Secret Santa! We are getting gifts for each other. I got a present already. Also, since one of the kids in my class might not be here on Friday (our Opening Day), he showed his to his recipient today, but the recipient can't have it till tomorrow. Mine is already wrapped. In the morning, I need you to email me, reminding me to bring the Secret Santa gift (itsbumpybackhere@gmail.com). The funny thing is, we haven't told our teacher, and we didn't have permission to decorate, but she saw it and didn't object... I wonder how she will react on Friday when we give and receive? O.O Laul!*

P.S. Sorry if you don't celebrate Christmas! That is perfectly fine! No reason it wouldn't be! If you don't celebrate Christmas, in the comments, tell us a little bit about what you do during the holidays, or what you celebrate instead. We would love to learn about your culture! :D

*Instead of thinking L-O-L, I actually think 'laul,' as in 'Paul.' I also think 'burb' instead of 'B-R-B.' Haha!

Newscast Taping

I was in a taping of a newscast yesterday. It wasn't like, CNN or something. It was an assignment to write a transcript for a Greek/Roman "newscast." We all did other projects, but one of my friends, who also writes scripts, wrote a transcript and we all participated (there are six 6th graders in my class. All the rest are fifthies. d(; ) I played Persephone, goddess of gardens and flowers. Sarmasi played Demeter, goddess of agriculture, who is also Persephone's mother. Bigab played Athena, goddess of wisdom and battle strategy.  Macreon played Larry Zuza (a play on the host of the CNN Student News show, Carl Azuz). Scarlett Telsarct played Dionysus, god of wine (the actress was a girl). And Rasim was our technician (all of their names were scrambled for security. Those aren't ACTUALLY their names).

Anyway, we all played our parts pretty well, and we recorded it in our school's newsroom. It was a lot if fun! If I can get access to it, I will post it here.

Keeping Mealworms

Do you have an amphibian or reptile that eats crickets or mealworms? Do you need to nurture them for science class? Or do you just want to keep them for fun? Do you have a small SMOOTH-SIDED Tupperware™ or bowl? You can keep mealworms easily, and for a long time. (Not the mealworm itself, but you can have a running cycle of them.)

You can obtain the mealies from Wal*Mart or any pet store. They come in small packages and come with their own meal (fine grained oats and other grains).

Life Cycle: 114-165 days to complete. First it is a larva, then a pupa (the mealworm stage), then it grows to adulthood (darkling beetle) where they mate and then die a few weeks after the eggs are laid. Also, they might go dormant for a couple days before the make their chrysalis to turn into beetles. (THE BEETLES FLY AND LAY UP TO 500 EGGS PER BETTLE. Try not to cause an infestation of your house.)

Genders: They are virtually genderless, though they do have indistinct genders. It is said that the males have smaller heads, and the females have larger ones (if the males' are smaller, then duh the females would seem larger. Doi).  You can find the gender by turning your mealworm on is back, or looking at its belly through a clear cup. Use a hand lens for this. The end closest to its 6 legs is its head. The side farthest is the tail. See the sections of the worms? Count seven down from the head. On a female, there will be a swelling and two outcroppings. This is most likely a female.

Keeping Materials:
 • Shallow smooth-sided cup, bowl, or box
 • Fine grains with no additives (e.g. Bleach in flour)
 • Sticks, leaves, etc. etc.
 • A lid with air holes or a rag with a small-medium hole (away from the sides of the container)
 • Small fruit slices with HIGH water levels
 • NO NO NO NO water EVER
 • Mealworms!
Keeping Directions:

Lay the grain throughout the container. Add any leaves or twigs you want. Put in the small fruit slices around the box. Add the mealworm!

Now, just try to keep them healthy and safe. NEVER EVER EVER add water. No added moisture is needed, or they will die. They are hydrated form the water and other liquids in the fruit that they need to eat.

Mine's name is Leopold (Leo for short). I am trying not to get too attached because he is going to die soon. I am going to release him when he cocoons.

Happy mealing!

Scorpia's Wrath

I have just finished writing a play for fun. Lots of the kids in my class are going to be actors and actresses in it. This is just for fun, and it really is fun! I held auditions on Wednesday and Thursday, and everyone who signed up and auditioned IS guaranteed a part, but the auditions are sadly closed now, so all of the parts are taken.

The sixth graders in my class are playing the three main parts, but a really good actress named Ircega (name scrambled for protection) is playing a main part. She is so good, funny, sweet, and pretty. AND she dances. Wow, pentuple threat! Haha.

The play will be shown in front of the class in a few months. Until then, au revoir, and may your plays be very playful.

Spider and Cockroach

I have all of this bio equipment for containing dead bugs and animals. Mainly bugs, but I have some owl yarp (A.K.A. Droppings, or vomit) and a snake skin, though. I just got a cockroach into a test tube and a huge spider into a petri dish.

The spider was BEAUTIFUL! It had been laboring in the corner of our bathroom for two months, but I finally got up the nerve to disturb it. It is just gorgeous! It has tan and black furry legs, interesting markings on its back, and it eyes! Oh, its eyes! When you look closely, you can see its fangs. Enormous, wonderful fangs! I had to wait a while to be sure all of it supposed venom had dried up before I could touch it. It would have been nice to collect a sample of it, though... But the poor spider... :( I wish it hadn't died... I wonder where its eggs are...

The roach was nothing special, but usually (and sadly), when my parents see roaches they kill them, so it was good to get one intact, for a change. :( :D

I have LOTS of bugs and snake skins in my bio drawer!!! I spent all year last year looking for dead things, and I found a non-decayed frog, but it started rotting so my parents wouldn't let me keep it... :(

Today at School (CB)

We have been doing this Continent study thing where we pick a continent and sometimes we can focus on one country. I have been sorta doing it with Loang (name scrambled for protection). I noticed Loang hadn't been doing much and I had been doing all the work and at the end of the day, he would say, "So what have we done so far?" And it always bugs me when people don't do their work. I don't mind doing all the work myself, but when I am supposed to be in a GROUP I am supposed to be in a GROUP. So I told Loang that I wanted to do it by myself (that is essentially what I said. I said it nicer and more sugar-coated than that, though). Loang wanted to have "One more chance!" so tomorrow is his last day to show he can work. He doesn't reach my standards, well, he has three more weeks to do his own, and heaven KNOWS he is not copying off mine.

I am going to write a book with my friend Miras (name scrambled for protection)!!! He loves ships and world trade between the 1400's and the 1700's and I love to write about secret symbols and cults and that type of stuff, so here is some of the background:

There is one of the boats that they are using to transport millions of dollars worth of things to another country, but hidden among that cargo is some sort of precious artifact. A strange ship tries to rob them, and everyone assumes it is a pirate ship, but it has strange symbols on it. In truth it belongs to a secret cult. The cult is gathering lots and lots of artifacts either to offer to or communicate with their gods.

We are making up an entire mythology! It is going to be so much fun!!! I love collaborating with people to write books.

I wrote along side one of my best friends on this blog: www.wordsofbirds.blogspot.com. It is called Words of Birds and it is about these two birds whose fates intertwine and form a touching story of longing and freedom of two helpless creatures that somehow find their way through the tangle of branches of life. I wrote for Raven Black. Go ahead and comment here or there. Feel free to email me at itsbumpybackhere@gmail.com. Thanks!!

That is it for today. More might happen tonight, but for the school day, that is it! Thanks for reading!!!

WEIRDNESS!!!

I tried to get to the Art Drawer today from school and it said it was blocked for my protection. Mrs Stanley said that usually all blogs are blocked. Poo. I really wanted to post from school, but when I tried to get there I didn't even log in I just typed in the URL. Man, lots of run-on sentences here, huh? Haha! Well, school went great, and I hope RK's second day goes well too!!!

Another 5/6 Combo Class!

RK and I met in a 5/6 combo class last year. They make those classes because the grades are over their limit in a class. The class size amendment is either 21 or 22, I don't know. But I know we are over it! SOOOO they asked some 6 graders and some 5 graders to be in it! I was in it last year, and this year there are all new people! They MIGHT be teaching mostly to the 5 grade curriculum, but, eh! School is school, right? My teacher is Mrs Stanley. She is really nice! RK had her once. Did you like her, RK?

We moved our stuff in today. Since there is a long weekend, the class starts on Tuesday. Wish me luck! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! (<---- I laugh when I am excited)

Third Day Of School *UPDATE*

It was so much fun! The day went really fast, and I actually ORGANIZED my binder! Now it closes right! Woohoo! It went really fast, and Mrs Olinger is HILARIOUS! She told us stories about spiders and stuff. She is a natural story teller! Haha! I think changing classes makes the day go faster! We played a math game in math that wasn't too math-y. I walked in and saw the board numbered with dots in the middle of each line, and I was thinking, "Oh gosh. We are doing multiplication! Oh no!" But ti was just a setup for the game. :) If you haven't started changing classes yet, you will like it. If you have a good binder and all your supplies, you will do fine. No need to be nervous! Questions about changing classes? Suggestions for me? (Boy, do I need them!) Email ItsBumpyBackHere@gmail.com! Thanks!

Third Day Of School

Dad is taking me this morning! Also, my ant bites don't hurt anymore, only, I think I got a splinter in my foot... :( School's gonna be awesome! (ALMOST) Can't wait!

To be Updated.

P.S. Sorry about how little posts there are each day, now. Those first two days where there were a lot was when I was still out of school. Now I am in school, so I only have time for a few.... :( I am sorry RK hasn't been posting! I think she has been spending more time with her family (I am OK with that)! Good luck at school, RK, and all our readers! We love each and every one of you!

Second Day of School

I am sort of happy, sort of sad... :(/:) I don't know which... Wish me more luck!

OHNO! UNO! *Update!*

Actually, it went fine. I have Mrs Miller as homeroom. She is soooo nice and a really great teacher. Then I go to Mrs Egan for science, then to Mrs Nelson for reading (novels, and such), and then to Mrs Wright for writing, and grammar (pretty much English) (Wright and write. Easy enough to remember!) Then, finally, the long anticipated social studies teacher, Mrs Olinger. She is really nice and funny, but she is strict when she needs to be. I love social sudies this year, because I love Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece (and probably Rome too. The mythology was pretty much the same). And this year the entire sixth grade itinerary changed, so we are learning about all the ancient civilizations, like the Aztecs, Egyptian, Greeks, Romans, Mayans, Inuits, Chinese, all of them! I like all of my teachers!

Also, we got a new principal. His name is Mr Dunkel. He changed the seating at lunch from military style, where all the seats were arranged like this:
___________________________________

(person)__(person)__(person)__(person)__(person)

To regular, where the seats are like this:
___________________________________
(person)    (person)     (person)     (person)     (person)

(person)__(person)__(person)__(person)__(person)

WE GET TO BE WITH OTHER HUMANS AGAIN!!!!

Yayayayayayayay!

Good luck with your big day!

OHNO! UNO!

Yesterday, there was one more day of summer. Today, there are none. Are you ready for school? I'm not! Why can't the summer parakeet come out and see the shadow of its birdseed so there are six more weeks of summer? :( I guess I'll have to brave it. I got Mrs Miller. She sounds nice! Wish me luck everybody, and good luck to you on your big day!
